Can we use existing sea-level estimates and ice-core temperature records from the last glacial cycle to constrain sea-level rise over the next century?Mark Siddall Abstract I will explore the possibility of using a simple (simplistic) model of the globally integrated response of sea level to temperature change. The model simply assumes that there is an equilibrium sea level (ice volume) for a given temperature and that there is some lag between temperature change and ice-sheet response. I will look at the consistencies (and inconsistencies) of the model response in terms of ice-core and benthic-isotope stratigraphy and make some tentative estimates of sea-level rise over the next hundred years. |
